Queensland "Look Up & Live App" wins Safety Award
Thanks to Stanley for bringing this to my attention last year.
It seems that Ergon Energy and Energex, as part of Energy Queensland, have won a Safe Work Award for this app. Congratulations!
I'd love to see something similar implemented here in Victoria.
Just a bit of an update after speaking to both the app developer (Glen Cook from Ergon Energy) and Robert Oldfield (from Energy Safe Victoria) in recent weeks. The GOOD NEWS is that both are actively pushing for a similar/clone app for Victoria as a planning tool in the construction sector.
There is a meeting with the Energy Companies scheduled next Friday (10 Sep 2021) with a view to working through some of the logistical & legal issues. One of the main things yet to be resolved are responsibility for liability if there's an issue with the data. Keep in mind that the assets (powerlines, poles, towers etc) are privately owned by the energy companies - albeit the database (ie the location & GPS co-ordinates etc) are already publicly accessible.
Modifying the app to be useful in Victoria isn't so much an issue (technically) as is getting permission to USE the database. IMHO this is one of the negative consequences of privatisation in the energy sector. 🙁
Anyway, I'll provide further updates if & when they happen.
Just FYI (for those that haven't seen how the Look-up + Live app works) this is an instructional video that was released by Ergon Energy last year.
This sounds like it would be a great asset to both spotters & contractors.
